Earlier this summer we got a chance to revisit a place that we hadn’t been in many years. Sitting at nearly 12,000-feet beneath the sheer verticality of Longs Peak’s Northeast face, Chasm Lake is not only breathtaking due to it’s elevation. It’s hard to believe that this amazing location lies only an hours hike from trail head in Rocky Mountain National Park. We had some work to shoot for Black Diamond (small packs, poles, headlamps) and scheduled to do an afternoon session up at the lake. Even though June is still early season for this high in the Rockies, we were surprised to find the lake covered in ice. So much for a quick swim in summit country.
