Gear We Use: MontBell Puffy Jackets

Who doesn’t like a nice, warm puffy jacket?  This time of year, we often get requests to recommend a good down jacket.  And for years there is only one brand we turn to for the lightest, warmest down goodies on the market – MontBell. Since we shoot a majority of the Japanese brand’s catalog and advertising work, a big, very light box arrives at our home with the latest and greatest down jackets. Definitely something we look forward to year after year. It’s always exciting to see what they’ve come up with next.

MontBell sells a variety of puffies from casual lifestyle down trenches to lightweight technical parkas.  From the lightest, Plasma 1000 Jacket (4 oz), made with 1000-fill power goose down and packs so small that you can literally take it everywhere.  This jacket makes a great layering piece or is perfect weight for cool summer nights.

To the warmest, Ventisca Parka (27 oz), this is your “all mountain” parka. Made with box baffle construction for maximum loft this is a closest you will get to wearing your sleeping bag. Designed with hand warmer pockets, an internal pocket to keep food or electronics warm, and an expedition hood to protect your face when its 40 below at High Camp on Denali. This jacket will keep you warm in the harshest conditions.

To the trendiest, Ultralight Travel Down Coat (9.8 oz) is the perfect solution for the cold commute to work or brisk walk between bars downtown.  This jacket is very packable so you don’t have to worry about lugging your big winter coat on the plane and stylish enough to wear on your walk to your next business meeting.  There is a MontBell puffy for everyone and every occasion that is guaranteed to be warm, functional, and lightweight!

Oh…and don’t forget to pair your jacket with puffy pants or down skirt on your next outing.

Next up: the sleeping bag that will change your camping life.
