I think it’s impossible to go wrong casting Sedona, Arizona as the location for a commercial shoot. The whole area is absolutely spectacular and offers a wide variety of terrain to work with. For a project last fall with Oboz Footwear, we needed to showcase a new hiking boot designed for hot weather and challenging trails. The Sedona area delivered with slick rock scrambles, desert towers and warm desert conditions. Another perque is that location scouting is best done by mountain bike. One challenge of this shoot was the deciding how to work the logistics of the must have camp scene. It was surprisingly difficult to find a photogenic, scenic spot that would get the evening light we desired. Turns out all we had to do was look up (as in up to the top of the desert towers all around). A moderate scramble put us and the talent on top of a sandstone tower with uninterrupted views of the surrounding desert. Perfect for catching the spectacular evening light this area is known for. Now getting down from the location by headlamp is a whole different story.
